BEIJING,Nov.9(Xinhua)--Scientistshaverevealedthatnativeanimalsaremoresensitivetoextremeweathereventscomparedtonon-nativeanimalsworldwide,accordingtoarecentpaperpublishedinthejournalNatureEcologyEvolution.Thefindingsindicatedthatextremeweatherevents,suchasfloods,droughts,storms,heatwavesandcoldwaves,mayencouragetheinvasionofalienspecies.Asaresult,suchevents,alongwiththeinvasivespecies,posemajorthreatstoglobalbiodiversity,thepapersaid.ResearchersfromtheInstituteofZoologyundertheChineseAcademyofSciencesandothersbuiltadatasetcomprising187non-nativeanimalspeciesand1,852nativeanimalspeciesacrossterrestrial,freshwaterandmarineecosystemsandanalyzedtheirresponsestodifferenttypesofextremeweatherevents.Theteamfoundthatcomparedtothenon-nativeones,thenativeanimalsshowedmorenegativeresponsestoextremeweathereventsonthewhole,althoughtheseresponsesvariedacrossweathereventsandhabitattypes.Accordingtothepaper,allmarineanimalspeciesincludedinthedatasetareoverallinsensitivetoextremeweatherevents,exceptforthenegativeeffectsofheatwavesonnativemollusks,coralsandanemones.Nativeanimalspeciesareadverselyaffectedbyheatwaves,coldwavesanddroughtsinterrestrialecosystemsandarevulnerabletomostextremeweathereventsexceptcoldwavesinfreshwaterecosystems,whereasnon-nativeterrestrialandfreshwateranimalsonlynegativelyrespondtoheatwavesandstorms,respectively,thepapersaid.Editor:DisclaimerTheviewsandopinionsexpressedinthisarticlearethoseoftheauthor's,GMW.cnmakesnorepresentationsastoaccuracy,suitability,orvalidityofanyinformationonthissiteandwillnotbeliableforanyerrors,omissions,ordelaysinthisinformation.
